The Person Happiness Became

So if you love me but you don't need me, you don't love me.

  1. so true.
If you love someone truly and deeply you need them in any possible way. I need him to be with me,to talk to me. I'm not asking for much. But the one thing I really need is to know he needs me back. Even with the silent way we love each other.

  2. This post may be short, but the raw words make me feel so sad, lost and alone. Sometimes I wish I can truly come up with a word regarding my feelings, but I can't.

  3. Why can't you understand that it's not like that?

  5. If you love someone truly there is always a need for them. For example. the need of human contact.

  6. If you love someone, it's natural that you would need that person to be with you, but sometimes, that's not always possible.

  7. Not true.

I believe that this 'need' you talk about is an emotion, a desire. And so is the love you talk about. With true, unconditional, love there is no need.

Love exists independent of action, presence or even chocolate!

  8. Steve --

I mostly agree with you, I do. I think that there is often need attached to love -- need and all kinds of other things, too. And there shouldn't be, and if things were perfect there wouldn't be. But we are people, after all, and not perfect, and so...

It is something to always reach for, though, yes?

This business of needing can sometimes be more compelling than loving, I think -- it's like a drug.

    Much warmth to you...

it does not mean that i love you.

  10. to white_rose, i have to disagree with you, if theres a need like human contact wont that be more of lust than love?

  11. My first instinct is to disagree.
I don't believe that to love someone is to need them. I think part of love is being able to thrive as two separate parts of a single unit.

But then I considered that there is a pretty big difference between not saying "I need you," and saying "I don't need you."

The latter, I would have to say, is probably a good indication that there is no love there.

  12. i love you
    i need you
    but i can survive
    and perhaps even thrive
    without you.

  13. STEVE- I was simply speaking of only one example of a need. The human contact which I have found is filled with truth and wisdom and love and faith which are other necessities associated with it.

  14. you left when i needed you.

now you need me, but I have learnt the hard way to cope by myself.

    what to do..

  15. but there are so many people i have loved desperately and yet not "needed" -- i need them as notions, i need them for what they inspire in me, and i need them to be happy because without that i cannot be happy -- but needing their physical presence? i want it, all the time, and yet i do fine without.

a "need" is a weakness, and true love is unfairly undermined by associating it with weakness.

  17. My mother taught me that each of us are personally responsible for our own completion. Need does not make love. To need in love is to be confused with the essence of loving. Love between two wholes never requires a larger fraction to fill a smaller fraction - love is two wholes appreciating one another's adventure and deciding to have one adventure between two completes.

  18. You said that you never wanted to leave me. You said that you needed me. To help you. You said that we had connected on an entirely different level...

    Then you left me.
And now you don't need me.
And evidently...we don't connect at all.

    ...I love you, too.

  19. I needed you then. I need you now. I'm sorry I never could find the right way, the right time to tell you and make you understand what that meant to me.
